Did You Miss The Field Goal?

460871736It’s no secret in any city that there’s a special type of joy in the air when football season arrives. It seems as if fans wait all summer long to see if the new draft picks or player trades are going to pan out to be a good team for the upcoming season.

Coaches develop new plays and technique to perfect and sculpt their new team into shape. While fans go buck wild with routines like wearing the same jersey without washing it all season long (honey yes you the stinky dude on my couch with 10 of his funky friends). It’s all in love or support of the game and team we hold dear.

As I strapped on my freshly washed jersey (I’m fresher than you- Beyonce) for Thursday night football and watch my team miss catch after catch (STEELERS YES YOU AGAINST THE RAVENS A LITTLE TICKED OFF DON’T YOU KNOW! IN MY BOBBY WORLDS MOMMY VOICE) it made me think- what did I miss today in my social media marketing strategy?

As I did a full mental swipe it suddenly came to me. I’ve gotten caught up in all the bells and whistles associated with new marketing features and slowly I’m forgetting the basic principles of marketing; which is building relationships.

Consider this although football players are armed with new plays and tricks to perform on the field yearly the basic of the game never changes- practice makes perfect, play hard, play smart. These terms never grow old and it’s a smart rule to standby.

So if you feel like you’re missing a few things in your marketing strategy stick to these 6 offensives as your defense so there are no missed opportunities.

6 Winning Plays

  1. Generate loyal fans–  Target audiences that will become loyal followers who will engage and promote your information shared.
  2. Personalize your touchdown dance – When posting to social networks personalize the information and make it your own. Make sure that blogs or any information shared shows your character and personality.
  3. Announce the GAME ‘s ON!– Let people know about your social media. People don’t watch football games just by flipping channels, it’s advertised! Make sure you advertise your social outlets as well.
  4. Represent your team on the field and off- Communicate with customers or prospect online, create a funnel that helps build relationships.
  5. Watch the Replays– Monitor your activities with others in the industry by learning and sharing useful information. Everyone, not a competitor online learn the difference between a competitor and ally.
  6. Score, Score, Score Score– Set high goals and make it a reality. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes it all in the learning process. Eventually, you’ll make that winning TOUCHDOWN!

Until next time stay web cougars, my friends!
